Topic: Untold Facts about the Custer Debacle: The Battle of the Little Bighorn
Today's presentation will cover General George Armstrong Custer's Civil War record, post-war scandals regarding the Indian Bureau, the composition of the Army, bureaucratic cost-cutting that caused problems with the cavalry's weapons, training restraints, officers' jealousies, their attitudes and actions in the field that would complicate the mission and almost destroy the 7th Cavalry
Information will be given this afternoon that has never been shared with scholars or the public, in general, due to the restrictions of the US Government and the estate of Elizabeth (Libby) Custer.
About Don Sender
Sender is a retired American history and World geography teacher as well as a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the US Army Reserve. He served 37 consecutive months overseas during the Korean War while a member of the Army Security Agency before being honorably discharged in 1954 as a Staff Sergeant.
He then reenlisted in the Army Reserve in 1976, serving in both tactical and strategic Psychological Operations units, earning his Warrant and later, his Commission, as a Counter-Intelligence Technician. He was a summer course instructor for many years at Fort McCoy, WI, teaching Counter-Intelligence, Military Security, Electronic Warfare, Counter-terrorism, and Interrogation of Prisoners of War.
He has also been a guest lecturer in Psychological Operations at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg, NC. He participated in every major military exercise from 1976 to 1991, including the Cuban Boat Lift, the planning session for the invasion of Grenada, and the after-action assessment of our assistance to Panama after our invasion to remove dictator Noriega. Don holds five Army Achievement Medals, the Army Commendation Medal,the Meritorious Service Medal , the Humanitarian Service Medal and many other awards.
